California Fair Services Authority (CFSA) is authorized to pool
Special Events Liability Protection for fair facility lessees, concessionaires,
exhibitors and other special events operators and participants for
non-hazardous activities. Our protection
is similar to commercial general liability coverages and conforms
to state requirements for special events operators. Read our Special
Events Summary of Protection for a program overview or the Memorandum of Coverage (MOC) for a detailed program description. The MOC is available online or in your fair's Red Book (Claims and Loss Reporting Guide) under General Liability, Tab 4.

To Apply for Coverage
Special Events Coverage is acquired through the fair by filling
out a "Special Events Coverage Receipt,"
which must be sent along with the payment to CFSA at least five
days before the event. The receipt is short and easy to complete,
simply follow the procedures posted on our Web
site or in your fair's Red Book (Claims and Loss Reporting
Guide) under General Liability, Tab 4. Remember: If a covered
special events operator has separate exhibitors, a security company
or anyone else other than himself participating in the event, each
one must require proof of liability insurance.
Set-Up and Take-Down Days Included
at no Extra Charge
When completing the "Special Events Coverage
Receipt," confirm that the days specified on the form are the
exact dates specified in the contract or rental agreement. There's
no extra charge for set-up and take-down days, but they must be
noted in the contract to be covered.
In the Event of an Accident
If an accident occurs, fill out the same "Accident
Report" form used when reporting general liability accidents.
Make sure to include the covered special events operator's name
and to attach a copy of their "Special Events Coverage Receipt"
and contract. Send all paperwork to CFSA.

Hazardous Special Event Coverage exclusively for California Fairs
When your fair is promoting a motorized event, such as car or motorcycle racing or a demolition derby, a horse show or a rodeo, you're required to have general liability coverage, just as would be required of an outside event promoter.
Why do you need additional coverage if your fair is already a CFSA General Liability Pool member? It's because the fairs' pooled liability program isn't structured, or more crucially, funded, to provide primary coverage for these types of hazardous special events. When the event is commercially covered, however, CFSA can transfer the liability for any accidents to insurance carriers specializing in hazardous activities.
Hazardous Special Events coverage is available for fairtime and interim events, to CFSA members and nonmembers. Coverage cost is determined by the type of event. For a price quote, please call CFSA at 916/263-6150.
