New Manager of the
Siskiyou Golden Fair
January 2000, Rebecca Weathers stepped into her new position as Chief Executive Officer of the Siskiyou Golden Fair. Since 1880, the Siskiyou Golden Fair has had only six fair managers. Rebecca will be their seventh, succeeding Ron Lillard, manager of the fair for the past 26 years. Rebecca graciously answered a few questions for F.Y.I.
Favorites
Favorite fair food: Curly fries
Favorite amusement ride: Ferris Wheel and Carousel are all I can handle.
Favorite movie: “You Can’t Take it With You” because it shows what’s truly important in life and what isn’t.
Favorite quote: “A successful leader cannot afford to lose the common touch.” Harry S. Truman.
Career
Q: Share with us a short bio on you and your earlier career.
A: I was a journalist for about 15 years, last holding the position of editor of the Siskiyou
Daily News in Yreka. I got fed up with the media life and went into entertainment working for Wilson Productions.
While I had been with the Siskiyou Golden Fair since about 1983, my entertainment production work introduced me to
many other fairs and events on the west coast. This experience and the wonderful friends that I made along the way
definitely contributed to my ever-growing knowledge of fairs and the event industry. May of 1999 was the month of my life,
as I graduated with my master’s degree in political science with distinction, and was selected to succeed one of the best
fair managers in the state, Ron Lillard.
Q: What do you like best about your new position?
A: Being off the road and spending time in my community again.
Q: Calling on your entertainment background, who would you pick as your favorite act to work
with and why?
A: Chris LeDoux. I have known these guys for six years and worked with them numerous times at
a variety of venues. They are always very relaxed, willing to work with any situation (and some of those have been
very challenging), and they put on a heck of a show! They make a production manager’s life easy.
Q: If you could have one quality that Ron Lillard possess, what would it be?
A: The ability to tell jokes! Just kidding. If I can be just half the fair manager that Ron
was, I will be a huge success.

| New Workers’ Comp Information System Now In Operation |
Beginning March 1, 2000, workers’ compensation insurance carriers in California, including CFSA, are mandated by law
to file all workers’ compensation claims electronically. The first paper reports to be replaced by electronic filing will
be the Employer’s Report of Occupational Injury or Illness (Form 5020). Every job-related injury or illness must be
reported on Form 5020.
Although there is no change in the requirement of fairs to provide completed forms within five days of knowledge of
injury, the new regulation requires CFSA to now file the Form 5020 within five days of receipt from the fair with the
Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Workers’ Compensation.
The new electronic reporting system will not accept a claim unless all fields are completed. Cindy Martin, Senior Workers’
Comp Claims Examiner, would like to remind all reporting fairs to please complete the entire Form 5020. She notes, the
fields that are mandatory and most overlooked by reporting fairs are date of birth, date of hire, social security number,
and wages (to include hourly rate and hours worked per week) .
Should the Form 5020 be rejected due to incomplete data, the reporting fair could become responsible for additional
assessments and penalties imposed by the State.

The Power of Color Consumer Preferences Revealed |
Want to capture the 18-29 year old trendsetting men market? Or would you rather tap into the corresponding women’s market? Then log onto the Pantone Internet site at: www.pantone.com. This site contains a variety of information including: a question and answer corner, articles on color, color direction and trends, and a survey conducted by Roper/Pantone. The Roper/Pantone Consumer Color Preference Study reveals that 35% of those polled chose blue as the country’s most popular color. “It comes as no surprise that Americans overwhelmingly chose the color that best evokes a soothing, calming tranquility in a frantically fast, often insecure world,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
Second to blue was green, chosen by 16% of consumers. Green is especially favored by a demographic group called the influentials. “These are the opinion leaders, the kind of people others go to for advice,” says Eiseman. “They are the very vocal 10% of the population who embrace newness and spread the word. They are the trendsetters.”
So the next time you’re designing your fair poster or developing a new brochure, check out the Pantone web page for a color insight into your target market. And while you’re there, look up your favorite color, and read all about your color profile.
