Discount Priced Computer Training Classes Offered to State, Local Government and Public Agencies
If you work for a District Agricultural Association fair, a fair that’s part of local government, or a state, local government or public agency, you can take advantage of computer training through the New Horizons Computer Learning Centers.
A wide variety of computer classes are offered at 16 New Horizons locations throughout California, including introductory classes, and classes on operating systems such as Windows 95, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, graphics, desktop publishing, hardware and troubleshooting, the Internet, even Macintosh, and Novell and Microsoft NT technical training.
How it works
New Horizons offers these classes through a new California Multiple Awards Schedule (CMAS), a preapproved state contract allowing state and local government agencies, as well as public agencies, to skip the bidding process when choosing a training vendor. Because the training is preapproved, and prenegotiated, training rates are significantly discounted — all one-day classes offered by New Horizon are just $108 per person. In addition, CMAS terms and conditions allow for 30-day payment terms and flexible methods of purchasing, including using a CAL-Card. (Call Alice Flissinger, DGS Procurement at 916/322-5833 if you’d like more information on participant requirements and CAL-Cards. A schedule of upcoming CAL-Card and CMAS program orientations is included with this week’s F.Y.I. newsletter.)
Choosing classes through New Horizons is easy. Simply call Dan McClelland at New Horizons in Sacramento, 1-(800) 448-8803, ext. 242. He can provide you with course schedules for all 16 training sites, course descriptions, and will help you with your registration process.

| Let's Go To The Fair |
Overall, fair attendance is on the rise. Del Mar Fair reports a 4.9 percent increase in paid attendance, along with a total attendance of 1,084,609 — a number among the fair’s all-time Top 5 attendances. El Dorado County Fair showed a healthy increase of 5.4 percent, most likely due to a change in event dates. Fair CEO Susan Clark says, “The new dates allowed us to forge a new relationship with the community.”
To date, 16 fairs have supplied F.Y.I. with their total attendance tallies:
F.Y.I. invites and encourages all fairs to contribute articles and article ideas for the
