Fairtime is Even More Fun and Educational with Exhibits from the Del Mar Fair

The Del Mar Fair has crafted a collection of five multi-paneled educational exhibits available to other fairs for rent or purchase. All you need to do to reserve or order an exhibit is send or fax a letter to Michelle Kinney, 619/755-1161, fax 619/481-7338, listing, in order of preference, the exhibits you desire, along with the dates of your fair. (Exhibits for purchase require a six-month production lead time.) These exhibits are in high demand and availability is limited, so place your requests early. Exhibits include:*

The most important factor to remember when negotiating a printing job, says Cheryl Kreps, supervisor of the California Authority of Racing Fairs’ Print Shop, is getting the printer involved early. This simple step will help you make full use of your printer’s expertise, as well as give you the opportunity and time to make the changes that will result in a better and more cost-effective final product. Other cost influencers:

• If the changes you make on your proofs don’t involve correcting mistakes made by the printer, expect to pay an additional fee.
• Plan for a 10 percent standard deviation of the quantity ordered and, accordingly, an adjusted price (could go up or down).
• The biggest expense in printing is setting up the job before turning on the presses. Look for price breaks when you order more copies of a single project. And, if you have other components of the job printing in the same ink colors, ask your printer about “ganging” these jobs together, making better use of your paper and saving setup costs.
